A pair of lacquer and gilt 'Palace' curio cabinets, Qianlong (1736-1795)
each cabinet carved to mirror the other with assymetrically arranged shelves, with six drawers and one hinged door, decorated in gold and red lacquer on a dark ground, the shelves and the back with sprays of blossoming foliage and a seascape of islands with bridges and pavilions, the shelves with carved and pierced borders of clo anddn stylised leafy scrolls, the top with bats and butterflies in flight amidst sprays of peony, chrysanthemum, lotus and morning glory, the reverse of the cabinets with a number of roundels of floral patterns -- 35 1/2 x 50 1/4 x 14in.
