A large carved full-tip rhinoceros horn cup, 19th century
the reticulated tapering horn carved as a large magnolia blossom with an irregularly-shaped rim borne on an entwined magnolia vine with flowering blossoms and clusters of berries, the horn of a warm caramel to deep brown tone, supported on an openwork wood stand carved with magnolia blossoms and berries borne on a leafy vine, the horn 26¾in. (67.9cm.) long.

Compare a related horn and stand illustrated in Jan Chapman, The Art of Rhinoceros Horn Carving in China, London, 1999, pl.38, pp.72-73, where the author mentions that the full-tip horn carvings were almost certainly produced in Canton; and another illustrated in Carl L. Crossman, The Decorative Arts of the China Trade, Woodbridge, 1991, pl.178.
