QIAN XINGJIAN, 20TH CENTURY
a scroll painting, in ink and slight colour on paper, depicting an eagle swooping down towards a pine branch, the bird with its wings, beak and talons open, inscribed 'Kun peng zhan chi qian wan li', signed and with one seal of the artist -- 53½in. x 25¾in. (135.9cm. x 65.4cm.), mounted and framed and glazed.

Lot Essay

'Kun peng zhan chi qian wan li' refers to a giant mythical fish in Chinese mythology that lives in a lake and can transform itself into a giant bird whose wing span is at least 1000 li across.
