PASSING ON RESPONSIBILITY FOR MILEVA'S AFFAIRS TO HIS SON. There are money troubles involving Mileva, which Einstein's sudden departure prevented him from discussing with Hans Albert; further, Mileva has enough trouble with Eduard's condition [after his nervous breakdown] that he does not wish to write to her direct; but 'my trust has gradually exhausted itself', and he has no desire to go to Zurich at Mileva's summons; it is Hans Albert's turn to take responsibility. Einstein considers Eduard's condition to be serious: 'You know yourself what dangers your mother's heredity brings with it. I explained all that to you repeatedly without success when there was still time to prevent future damage [in Hans Albert's own children]. Now we just have to bear what we can no longer change'. He is sorry to burden Hans Albert with this, 'but there is no other way, because clarity is absolutely necessary for me'.
