EARLY JAPANESE EDITION OF THIS WORK ON CHINESE MEDICINE. First published in China in 1617; reprinted in Japan, preserving the Chinese text but providing it with Japanese reading marks. The 160 chapters describe causes and symptoms, and provide diagnoses, treatments and prescriptions for a wide range of disorders including female breast cancer. The illustrations in volume I relate to acupuncture points for particular diseases; the chart in volume IV is equivalent to the Western 'Zodiacal Man', and was used to locate the particular god who would favour medical treatment in conformity with the season. See G.E. Mestler, 'A Galaxy of Old Japanese Medical Books' in Bulletin of the Medical Library Association, pt. iii, 1956, 44, no. 2, pp. 149-50. Not in Kerlen, Kraft or Unschuld. (4)
