AN EXCEPTIONALLY FINE PORTRAIT OF CLEVELAND, in a three-quarter profile, wearing his trademark double-breasted morning coat. Judging from his appearance, this image likely dates from Cleveland's second tenure as President, when he returned to the White House in 1893, after the one-term interregnum of the Harrison presidency. His second term would be marked by extensive labor strikes and violence, from the Pullman Company works in Chicago to Andrew Carnegie's Homestead steel plant in 1896.
