THE AUTHOR OF "J'ACCUSE!" A vignetted head-and-shoulders image of the highly successful but extremely controversial French novelist, one of the chief writers of the naturalistic school. Zola was convicted of libel and forced into exile after publication of an open letter, "J'accuse," an indictment of the French military for its unjust treatment of Captain Alfred Dreyfus, wrongly convicted of espionage.
