Lot Essay

cf. P. Sulzer, ed., Jean Prouvé Complete Works Vol. 3: 1944-1954, Basel, 2005, p. 174, no. 1146.3.

In 1951 ORSTOM (Office of Scientific and Technical Research in Overseas Territories), which had a base in most of France's African colonies, placed a sizeable order with Les Ateliers Jean Prouvé to equip several of its overseas locations as well as its main office in Bondy, a suburb of Paris. The present lot, the table in the following lot and the armoire in lot 310 come from the ORSTOM commission.
