Letterpress volume-titles to I-VII, part-title to VIII, indices to each volume, and cumulative indices for I-III and I-VI bound in at the end of III and the front of VI respectively. Engraved volume-titles by Fenner and Watts after Fenner and Smith and engraved dedication (in vol. IV). 192 hand-coloured engraved plates by S. Watts after Mrs. E. Bury, Miss S. Maund, et al., tissue guards. Woodcut illustrations. Pp. I, 1-84 only of The Auctarium and pp. I, 1-144 only of The Floral Register bound in at the end of the volumes they were issued with. (Sporadic light spotting, some quires lightly browned, principally in I-II). Contemporary, near-uniform half calf by Coulter, Sittingbourne [I-V] and Hall & Son, Maidstone [VI-VIII], spines gilt in compartments, gilt morocco lettering-pieces in 2 (extremities a little rubbed and scuffed, slight chipping at spine-ends).

FIRST EDITIONS. The Botanic Garden was published over 26 years in monthly numbers -- 12 numbers formed one part and 2 parts formed one volume -- and the supplementary The Floral Register, The Auctarium, and The Fruitist were issued with the monthly parts of the main work at various points from 1834 until the work's completion in 1850. The botanist, pharmacist, printer and bookseller Benjamin Maund FLS lived and worked in Bromsgrove, Worcestershire, and served on the botanical committees of the Worcestershire Natural History Society.
