Lot Essay

James Webb was a marine and landscape painter who exhibited at the Royal Academy, the Royal Society of British Artists at Suffolk Street, The British Institution, the New Watercolour Society and the Grosvenor Gallery amongst others. His paintings are represented in Tate Britain and the Victoria and Albert Museum. Although the present view has not been identified, it bears a marked resemblance to the East Anglian landscape.
