ST. NICHOLAS
RUSSIAN, MAKER'S MARK S.Sh. (CYRILLICS), 1908-17
The saint represented half-length, frontal, his right hand raised in benediction, carrying the Gospel book in his other hand, the cover of the latter depicting the Pantokrator, painted naturalistically with sombre colours, the border of the oklad shaped as an ogee-arch, decorated with repoussé floral patterns, the halo and crown made of shaded enamel, the Gospel with champlevé enamel
