THE APOSTLE PETER
RUSSIAN (MOSCOW SCHOOL), EARLY 16TH CENTURY
The panel, originally part of an iconostasis, representing the Apostle bending forwards to the direction where Christ would appear, holding a closed scroll and his attribute the key, with his other hand gesturing in supplication, his face framed by short hair and a beard, painted with deep colours, his garments rendered with green and yellow, the folds outlined in black
