A DOUBLE-SIDED TABLETKA FOR OCTOBER ACCORDING TO THE OLD LITURGICAL CALENDAR
RUSSIAN, 16TH CENTURY
Each side arranged over three registers, the patron saints of each day standing next to each other, wearing garments respective to their position in the celestial hierarchy and bearing their attributes, more prominent are the depictions of events, examples being the 'Pokrov' on the top register at the left (celebrated on the 1st of October), the 'Holy Fathers of the Seventh Ecumenical Council' at the far right of the middle register (the second Sunday of the month), on the second row of the reverse the 'Seven Sleepers of Ephesus' (feast of 22nd October), the miniature painting rendered finely and in great detail, the predominant greens and reds standing out against the gold background, on a Plexiglas stand
