Title printed in red and black and with engraved arms of the dedicatee, Benedict XIV, 6 engraved plates, 3 folding, engraved head- and tailpieces and initials (plates lightly offset, some foxing and staining). Contemporary Italian vellum, title in gilt on spine, sprinkled edges.
FIRST EDITION of a fine work on mosaics by the learned archaeologist Furietti. The first plate depicts the celebrated mosaic of four doves perched on a drinking vessel which the author had discovered at the Villa Adria in 1737 and which Pliny mentions in his Natural History. It is now in the Capitoline Museum. Graesse II, 647 (mistakenly indicating 8 plates); Cicognara 130.
