FIRST EDITION of Malvasia's comprehensive work on Bolognese painters from the twelfth century to the death of Elisabetta Sirani in 1665. Particular valuable for containing the first biographies of the Caracci and Guido Reni, its importance also lies in its catalogue raisonné of the paintings and prints of many of the artists, and not least in its four comprehensive indexes.
