Modelled seated on its haunches, its body constructed from vegetables, a squash forming its body, artichoke, aubergine and marrow forming the legs and a further squash forming the head, the tail and ears moulded from leaves, on an oval domed base painted with ornament

Lot Essay

This Italian maiolica hound is inspired by Guiseppe Arcimboldo, (1527-1593) an Italian Renaissance painter best known for creating imaginative portraits entirely from representations of fruit, vegetables, flowers and fish.
