A SET OF SIX ROYAL GOLD, ENAMEL AND DIAMOND MOMENTO BUTTONS
APPARENTLY UNMARKED, CIRCA 1840
Each circular, with blue guilloché enamel and a diamond set flower motif, the backs with a later adapted clip, and with a hinged compartment containing a lock of hair, the back of five engraved with the names of the first five childen of Vittorio Emanuele II, King of Italy,(1820-1878) and his wife Maria Adelaide, Queen of Sardinia, (1822-1855), contained in a fitted blue leather case, the cover with a gilt Savoia knot

The engraved names are: 'Clotilde', for Maria Clotilde, Princess Napoleon, (1843-1911); 'Umbert', for Umberto I, King of Italy, (1844-1900); 'Amede', for Amedeo I of Spain, 1st Duke of Aosta, (1845-1890); 'Odon', for Oddone Eugenio, Duke of Montferrato, (1846-1866); and 'Maria', for Maria Pia, Queen of Portugal, (1847-1911) (6)
