Lot Essay

The shape of the present ewer, the spout with its articulated flat clasp and the black ebony handle being at right angle with the spout, can be compared to a painted enamel ewer from the Yongzheng period in the National Palace Museum, illustrated in Chen Hsia-Sheng, Enamel Ware in the Ming and Ch'ing Dynasties, the National Palace Museum, Taipei 1999, pl.100.
