Lot Essay

This specific pattern called 'The three friends of winter' (prunus, pine and bamboo) has always been very popular from the Ming to the Qing dynasty.
A pair of blue and white bowls from Jiaqing reign, with the same design and same inner motif, is illustrated in the Catalogue of The Oriental Ceramic Society of Hong Kong, 'Exhibition of Chinese Blue and White Porcelain and related Underglazed Red', February 1975, p.91, pl.116.
