CHINE, DYNASTIE QING, EPOQUE QIANLONG (1736-1795)
Reposant sur un petit pied en bronze doré, la panse divisée en six lobes, chacun orné d'un groupe de trois pêches, entouré de deux rinceaux feuillagés de lotus, de volutes stylisées et surmonté d'une chauve-souris, le couvercle en bronze doré, décoré sur le dessus d'un daim sous un érable et d'une grue, tous deux sur une berge rocailleuse, la rivière entièrement ajourée, les côtés rehaussés de motifs géométriques, l'anse divisée en deux parties rattachées à la panse par un motif de nuages, chauve-souris et pêches en bronze doré

Lot Essay

Handwarmers were used for keeping warm during the winter. Filled with burning coals, the heat escaped through the pierced top. They were made of bronze and other metals as well as the more costly painted enamel and cloisonné enamel such as the present example.
Compare the current one with a Qing dynasty example with cloisonné body decorated with bats and reticulated gilt-copper cover in the National Palace Museum, Taiwan, illustrated in the catalogue for the exhibition, Great National Treasures of China, Taipei, 1994, p.207, no.49.
