Sa-kae Series

Although Natee's work has moved through a variety of styles and subject matters, he remains a consummate painter; questioning the physical, intellectual and emotional value of painting. This foray into 3-dimensional media seems to be a natural progression in his ongoing search for answers to these questions. "Much of my work deals with various aspects of truth and illusion and their complex interplay with the nature of beauty, dreams, hopes and perfection. One explanation for this may be my attitude toward the nature of painting and what it means to be a painter. It seems to me that the role of painting and painters has always been to distill the truth from the things we see and to portray it from different angles. But because of the complexities and contradictions of modern life, painting alone may no longer be able to fulfill this role." (Artist's statement July 2006)

This sculpture explores the surfaces and textures of a dried flower known as Sa-Kae. Not unlike his paintings, Natee has chosen another small subject and magnified it to life-like proportions in order to truly represent the flower's natural fluid lines, curves and graceful movement.
