Pear-shaped, on moulded foot, plain body, the upper part applied with draperies and vessels, the drapery engraved with scrolling foliage, scroll wood handle, the detachable domed cover with vase shaped finial, marked on base

Lot Essay

Alger Mensma was born in Leeuwarden in 1682. Ten years later he became apprentice to his father's workshop in Leeuwarden. In 1710 Alger Mensma became a member of the Amsterdam's silversmiths guild. He was known to have specialized in table services and vessels of high quality. After 1757 he died in Leeuwarden (see Jan Rudolph de Lorm, Amsterdams Goud en Zilver, Zwolle, 1999, pag. 519).
