Lot Essay

Johannes Pieter Kroese (1702-1778) was first recorded working in Amsterdam in the Kalverstraat in 1729. He later worked with his son, who took over the business in 1775.
The present lot belongs to a group of Dutch carved wood bracket clocks made under the influence of the French Rococo style which was highly fashionable in the Netherlands in the mid 18th century.
