Felia Litvinne (1860-1936) was an acclaimed Russian soprano. Born Françoise-Jeanne Schütz in St Petersburg in 1860, she trained from the age of 15 to be an opera singer. Renowned as a Wagnerian, she performed at La Scala and the Opera houses in St. Petersburg and Covent Garden. Her heritage - her father was Russian and her mother was French-Canadian - meant Litvinne was able to sing in several languages. She retired from the stage in 1917 when she became a notable teacher, including Nina Koshetz and Germaine Lubin amongst her pupils.
