Attributed to Marc Simon; circa 1927
inlaid in geometric and floral designs, with rays (of sunlight) eminating from the center to the four corners and the top, threading through a field of peiones, asters, chrysanthemums, hydrangia and other abstract flowers, the veneers of ash, satinwood, maple, sycamore and rosewood and colored in red, green, orange, browns and yellows; over a background of poppies. With an inset fabric panel in the middle.

Lot Essay

There were only tweleve deluxe suites on board the Ile de France, and this pre-war decoration was originally inset behind the sofa in the sitting room. After the war, during her post war/troopship refit all the suites were re-done.
