A scale waterline model of the S.S. Normandie
Alan Raven; circa 1997
modeled as after her refit in 1936-37, the hull built up from wood, with a painted red waterline, black and white topsides which are drilled with portholes and detailed windows on either side, the decks of paper with the planking drawn in pencil, and fitted with numerous details which include whaleback at the bow, railings, cargo hatches and booms, built up deck structures including bridge and bridge wings, fore and aft mast, life boats on davits, winter garden, pool and other details. Set on a piece of reverse painted shower glass to form a sea with a pair of modeled tugs at her port bow. All fitted into a mecassa ebony veneer base with an inlaid fleur de lis and brass plaque at mid-ships on the port side.
