Lot Essay

This Konya Yastik, although younger in date, is related to two other known examples. One is a fragment published in the Orient Stars Collection dating to the 18th century with very similar field, lappet and border designs (see E. H. Kirchheim, Orient Stars, a Carpet Collection, Stuttgart and London, 1993, p. 224, pl. 153). A complete example is in the Newman Collection (see B. Morehouse, Yastiks, Philadelphia, 1996, p. 51, no. 68) and has a more archaic treatment of the amulet motifs in the field and the lappets.
