R.A. d'Hulst dates the present drawing to circa 1660, noting that although no painting of this subject is known the drawing can be connected to a series of compositional studies showing scenes from the Life of Jacob all of which date from the same period (R.A. d'Hulst, op. cit., nos. A378-382).
