The Bands at County End
signed 'HELEN BRADLEY' (lower right), and with a fly (lower right) and signed again, inscribed and dated '''The Bands at County End'', George and I/called to Mother, who with the Aunts/and Miss Carter (who wore Pink) were/nearly home when we heard the Band/begin its New Years Eve round with/'Here we come a Wassailing.'' Everyone/turned back and when we got to/James Alfred Buerleys shop he was standing/at the door and Aunt Frances stopped/to talk to him. He was her young man,/we heard mother say, but he couldnt/marry her because his Mother wouldn't let/him. We saw Father playing his violin with the Band and hoped he wouldnt get/cold for the snow lay deep and crisp and/even. Tomorrow the Bells would ring & it would/be another year. Now it is the 31st of December 1906./Helen Layfield Bradley 1973.' (on a label attached to the backboard)
