Lot Essay

On Queen Victoria's left is Viscount Melbourne (the Prime Minister) and on the other side is the Marquess of Conyngham (Lord Chamberlain). This appears to be a sketch for the finished oil which was subsequently engraved. Various changes were made from this sketch to the finished piece.
