St Donat's Castle had a steady succession of owners during the 1800's, but underwent extensive refurbishment after Morgan Williams bought the castle in 1901. He died in 1909, the castle changed hands in 1922 and then again in 1925 when William Randolph Hearst bought it. The St Donat's Castle bed is believed to have left the castle by 1922.
