A Japanese ivory netsuke of a mounted warrior, signed Uki, 19th century
finely carved as the Chinese warrior Gentoku riding his stallion Tekiro across the Dankai river, through the crested waves, carved with extensive undercutting -- 1 9/16in. (3.9cm.) high.

Lot Essay

The design represents Gentoku (in Chinese, Xuande) escaping from a castle in which he had been trapped by riding his mount Tekiro across the Tan river.
