A Chinese sancai-glazed pottery earth spirit, Tang dynasty (618-907)
the bestial winged creature modelled seated on its haunches on a lobed plinth, the unglazed and painted humanoid bearded head crowned with a tall twisted horn flanked by large flaring ears above the bulging eyes and pronounced nose, the body and base covered in amber, green and cream splashes -- 13 3/16in. (33.4cm.) high.
