Lot Essay

Jules Moginiez (1835-1894) trained under the sculptor Paul Comolera and first exhibited in 1855. His bronzes were often crisply cast, usually by his father, and bird groups became his premier choice of subject. Moigniez became a specialist in the genre which won him acclaim and popularity in his lifetime, exporting many bronzes abroad.
