THE PENURY OF GERMAN DRAMATISTS: Robert recounts a conversation with the French dramatist Duval [Alexandre-Vincent Pineux Duval (1767-1842)], in which Duval had been astonished at the lack of financial reward for German dramatists, particularly the instance of the librettist for Weber's Freischütz, who received 'weniger als gar Nichts', and at the prevelance of piracy of texts by printers.
