A DETAILED CRITIQUE OF A FELLOW WRITER'S NARRATIVE TECHNIQUE: Storm expresses his appreciation of Biebendt's Stillwinkel, 'a finely-narrated family story', although he doesn't like the title; he goes on to criticise her for slipping into the mere parade of thoughts, rather than real 'representation', and the intrusion of verse into prose: 'sie wissen oder fühlen zwar, daß man in der Poesie wie in jeder Kunst "darstellen" muß und nicht Gedanken auskramen; aber es passirt Ihnen Letzteres doch hie und da; so in der größeren Scene zwischen Bruder und Schwester und auch anderswo; denn auch in solchen Gesprächen muß wesentlich "zur Sache" geredet werden'.
