JANACEK, Leos (1854-1928). Autograph letter signed ('Leos') to his sister, Brno, 25 April 1926, in Czech, 'tomorrow I am leaving on a rather distant journey -- to London. One never knows what may happen and therefore keep this letter', listing, in three numbered headings, her right to continue living in his house until the end of her life, to use the garden, and to grow potatoes in it, but on the other hand conjuring her not to sell anything from it, ending with the hope that he will return around 15 May 'to a happy reunion', 3 pages, 8vo, bifolium (tears, c.55m, at cente folds, remnant of tape repairs).
Janacek set off for England shortly after finishing the Sinfonietta, and spent a week in London at the invitation of a committee organised by Rosa Newmarch: 'His visit coincided with the General Strike, but a concert, which included most of his chamber works to date, took place as planned, at the Wigmore Hall (6 May)' (Grove 6).
