An adventuress writes to her friends, in two letters expressing concern about the safe arrival of her letters to Marshal de Créqui and 'Madame de Sandwich' [in France], and begging her first correspondent not to abandon herself to unhappiness (on the death of a son); referring also to a marriage and to her sister, and asking for news of Mme de Bellefont and Mme de Nevers. She tells Hautefeuille that parliament is willing to help the King (probably referring to Charles II and the Anglo-Dutch war).

Hortense Mancini, one of the nieces of Cardinal Mazarin, married the extremely rich Armand-Charles de la Meilleraye in 1666 but soon left him. She had many lovers, wrote her memoirs and in 1675 arrived at the court of Charles II in London where she became one of the royal mistresses. Jean de Hautefeuille (1647-1724) took holy orders but was better known as a physicist interested in mechanical problems.
