One of the great military commanders of his day, Trivulce was of noble Milanese origin. He served first with Ferdinand of Aragon, then joined the French and captured the duchy of Milan from Ludovico Sforza for Louis XII in 1499. He was appointed a marshal of France and governed Milan until it was re-captured by Sforza in 1500.
