Autograph letter signed ('Wm Cobbett') to George Canning, Kensington, 17 September 1822, 1 page, 4to, integral leaf docketed, with Canning's draft reply in secretarial hand, sending copies of two country newspapers (not present) from Norfolk and Hampshire to disprove Canning's assertion that 'the distress of the farming community would find a remedy in "the patience" of the suffering parties' and suggesting that the advertisements for the sale of farming stock may help him to judge 'whether patience much short of that of Job would be sufficient for the present emergency'; Richard COBDEN. Autograph letter signed ('R Cobden') to H[enry] Ashworth, impressed seal of House of Commons, 12 March 1857, 4 pages, 8vo, with envelope addressed to Ashworth in New York, enclosing (not present) a letter of introduction to the President of the United States [James Buchanan, elected 15th President eight days previously on 4 March], providing an overview of the political scene in Great Britain and professing an interest in the Illinois railway; Thomas Babington MACAULAY. Autograph letter (3rd person), to a Lord Mayor elect and the sheriffs, Albany, 25 October 1847, 1 page, 4to, regretting that he could not dine (traces of mount along edges, upper left-hand corner torn away); and a document signed by Nathan Meyer [Rothschild] (1777-1836), Vienna, 1809.
