HOTTINGER, Johann Heinrich (1620-1667, Swiss philologist and theologian). Three autograph letters signed ('Hottinger' and 'John. Henricus Hottingerus'), the first two to the Swiss Reformed church historian Johann Heinrich Ott, Leiden, n.d. and 2 February 1640, the third to an unidentified recipient (perhaps also to Ott), Zurich, 6 March 1651, in Latin (the first letter with a postscript in Hebrew, 9 lines), in the earlier letters writing as a student from Leiden, with news of fellow scholars and of his reading, the second letter with copious biblical quotations in Hebrew and an entire bravura postscript in the language; the letter of 1651 expresses his affection for Ott, and refers to students he is sending him, together 2 pages, folio, and one page, 4to, letters to Ott with integral address panels (to Ott in Harlem and Groningen), one annotated with draft reply by Ott, the letters numbered '262' and '291' in upper right corner; with a portrait engraving.
