PESTALOZZI, Johann Heinrich (1746-1827). Autograph letter signed ('Pestalozzi') to an unidentified recipient, n.p., n.d., in German, 1½ pages, 4to, on a bifolium, at the foot of an autograph letter signed by Elias Mieg, Yverdon, 14 August 1807, in French (some creasing and light browning, p.1 with remnant of album leaf to upper margin).
A letter of reassurance to the father of pupils at the Yverdon school, 'Es geht über mein erwarten', complimenting him on his children, who are affectionate and truthful, 'Ihr Auge bestetigt was ihr Mund sagt', thanking the recipient for his encouragement to Pestalozzi in his aim, which he confesses is to improve 'the whole condition of humankind'; the letter of Elias Mieg to which Pestalozzi's is appended assures the recipient of the happiness and improving health of his children at Yverdon, in accordance with the assurances of 'Papa Pestalozzi'.
Pestalozzi had established his pioneering educational establishment at Yverdon on Lake Neuchâtel in 1805, and it was to become a magnet for all those concerned in the improvement of education.
