A French gilt-brass and glass plate quarter-striking eight day great wheel skeleton clock
Early 19th Century
On oval base with foliate filigree mounts to both sides, pierced triangular securing brackets to both sides of the glass plate, white enamel chapter ring with black Arabic chapters and red date and day of week indications, with blue trailing leaves between, pierced and blued steel hands (later minute, probably later calendar hands), the movement with single spring barrel driving a great wheel with five Y-shaped spokes, the going train powering the strike train via continually-wound spring barrel remontoire, with hours on one bell and quarters on another, dead beat escapement, later pendulum regulation positioned above the plates; on plush-lined velvet plinth and under glass dome
