The shaped rectangular verde marble top above a shaped foliate frieze centered by an allegorical mask with musical attributes flanked by foliate sprays and lambrequins, the pierced sides centered by a heart-shaped motif, on cabriole legs leaden by large shells issuing floral festoons and joined by an X-shaped stretcher conformingly-carved with stylised shells, bead-and-reel moulding and acanthus sprays, one frieze inscribed twice in black ink 'A.W. L 1831', and with a label inscribed 'CROW I32 23', some losses to peripherical carving

Sale room notice
This table was part of the collections probably formed by the 2nd Earl of Lonsdale (d.1844), and descended with the earls of Lonsdale at Whitehaven Castle, Cumbria, and was subsequently moved to Lowther Castle where it is described in the Maple & Co. sale catalogue as "a gilt console table, carved in relief with head of Medusa, foliate scrolls and trellis work, the top with a stout slab of verde mottled marble, standing on cabriole legs, 70 in. by 36in.", 15th April 1947, lot 465
