A PAIR OF ITALIAN GILTWOOD AND PAINTED CONSOLE TABLES
ROME, LATE 18TH CENTURY
Each with rectangular alabaster-veneered tops with moulded red marble edges above a scrolling foliate-carved frieze with stiff laurel-leaf swags, centered by a ribbon-tied medallion depicting Pliny's doves, and decorated with blue-painted profile medallions of Roman Emperors, and with laurel garlands, the sides with conforming scrolls and medallions, on turned tapering stop-fluted legs with beaded collars and terminating in stiff-leaf carved toupie feet
