a miniature silver President's Cup trophy, vase-shaped on spreading circular foot, the body with moulded band and engraved inscription "All England Lawn Tennis Club, Wimbledon, The Presidents Cup 1976, All Comers Singles, Championship of the World, B. Borg", with two leaf-capped handles and detachable spool-shaped cover with baluster finial, hallmarked London, 1973, 8¾in. (22in.) high.

Lot Essay

The above President's Cup was awarded to Bjorn Borg after winning his first Wimbledon title in 1976 to become the youngest male Wimbledon champion of the modern era at 20 years and 1 month. In the Final Borg defeated Ilie Nastase 6/4, 6/2, 9/7. See notes from previous lot.

The winner of the Men's Wimbledon Singles Championships were presented with three trophies - the Challenge Cup, the Renshaw Cup and the President's Cup. The President's Cup was presented to winners from 1908 to 1994. Originally, full size trophies were presented, but after 1949 these were replaced by miniature trophies.
