Lot Essay

In the first of these letters, Hobbs discusses his performance in the 1931 season - "I have had a very good season for I have made 8 centuries & I completed my 2,000 runs last week" - and discusses his plans for the future - "I think I shall definitely finish next season, my defence is as good as ever but I take much longer over my scores. Don't think I see the ball so quickly". In the letter dated July 1/38, Hobbs addresses Leonard Morey as "Mr [C.B.] Fry", and signs off as "Jac-obs" - a joke between the two friends.
