As recorded by de' Dominici, Solimena painted The Departure of Rebecca for the Baglioni family of Venice. Several versions and copies of the painting are known and the question about which of these are by Solimena's hand remains open.
The composition of this painting repeats, with variants, the painting in the Musée Fesch, Ajaccio, which Ferdinando Bologna published as the prime version (i.e. the painting formerly in the Baglioni collection), proposing a date of around 1715. Bologna also listed a later replica of circa 1729-30, formerly in the Harrach collection in Vienna, and a good copy in the Pinatoceta Nazionale, Bologna (F. Bologna, Francesco Solimena, Naples, 1957, p. 247). An attribution to Jacopo Cestaro has also been proposed.
