A MEISSEN HEXAGONAL BALUSTER TEACADDY AND COVER
CIRCA 1725-30
Painted by J.E. Stadler, the recessed panels with a continuous scene divided by the ribbed angles, one side with an Oriental holding a parasol and standing before a fence pointing towards a flowering peony and chrysanthemum plant branching continuously across four sides, and with a bird in flight, the cylindrical cover with a flower and edged with a band of diaper pattern and half-flowerheads

Lot Essay

A teacaddy of the same form painted with indianische Blumen meandering across the surface of each panel (but without figures) is in the Wark Collection, Florida, and is illustrated by Mary Campbell Gristina, 'The Wark Collection, Early Meissen Porcelain' The Cummer Gallery of Art Catalogue (Jacksonville, 1984), no. 398.
