Painted with the 'Three Friends' pine, bamboo and flowering prunus issuing from banded hedges, brown line rims (minute flake to rim of teabowl)

For an identical treatment of this subject, see the teabowl and saucer with the same Japanese Palace inventory mark in the Hans Syz Collection illustrated by Hans Syz et. al. Catalogue of the Hans Syz Collection (Washington, D.C., 1979), no. 92. A similar example from the Otto Höffer Collection was sold (with a Japanese Kakiemon teabowl) in these Rooms on 5th July 2004, lot 37.
